After spending time with one another for the Fall Equinox, Ketamine and Aconitum had agreed to work together on completing some land quests.  Starting their journey in the Mountain region, their goal is to survive a Dream Journey.

“What even is a dream journey?”  “Is it like visiting a deserted island for a dream vacation or something?”  Ketamine didn’t seem to have a clue what he had signed up for.
“You’re kidding, right?” Aconitum perked up beside him.
The confused look he gave the purple mare made it very obvious he wasn’t joking.
Aconitum sighed gently before turning her attention back to Ketamine.
“It’s where you go to sleep and go on a journey in the dream world.”  she explained to him patiently.
Ketamine still seemed a little confused but was clearly mulling things over in his head.
“Don’t worry, Ketamine, it’s just like dreaming.” Mr goat chimed in.
“Yeah, you say that now but with my luck I’m going to encounter monsters or some other nonsense when we do this.”  Ketamine was concerned for his well being. He was well aware that the powers that be often cursed these quests and it wasn’t as if he was the lucky type.

“Don’t worry about it, we’ll be in there together.”  “If any monsters do happen to show up I’ll be able to help you fight them off.”  “Unlike you, my luck usually isn’t too awful.” Aconitum tried to cheer the lesser deity on.
“Goat will be with us too, won't he?”  “Yeah, this will be fine..”  Ketamine mumbled more to himself than anyone else.
Mr Goat felt chills run all the way down his spine.  He knew full well what it meant to go with Ketamine on these kinds of adventures.  Heck, last time he went through land quests with him Goat ended up struck by lightning while strapped to a kite, among other things..
Mr Goat shook his head to try to clear his thoughts of those less than pleasant memories.

With all the negative thoughts pushed aside the group settled in and got ready for their dream journey.  Aconitum cleared a nice flat area of the ground and laid out some comfortable blankets.  She had a fondness for soft blankets so often traveled with some.  You never know when you might need a blanket, she thought to herself.
Mr Goat was trying to get a campfire going next to where Aconitum was setting up their sleeping area.  The leaves and sticks he was using were plenty dry, but he simply couldn’t get it to light.
Rubbing two sticks together simply wasn’t a fool proof method of starting a fire.  Especially when the one trying to start it is as inexperienced as Mr Goat was.
“Ketamine, with all of your fire magic do you think you could get this started?”  the goat shouted in Ketamine's direction.
The lesser deity had been off checking the surrounding area for monsters.  The call from his familiar caught his attention and he moseyed back over to camp.
“Did someone ask for fire?”  Ketamine who wore a mane of pink flames winked towards his companion and at the same time a large lightning bolt cut through the air, striking the sticks which were still in the goats hooves.  The ground shook and the atmosphere let out a roar, but the fire was lit.
Dislike his methods all you want, Ketamine knows how to get things done.
Unfortunately poor Mr Goat was a little too close to the lightning and now his entire coat was poofed up, much like a sheep that was overdue for a shearing.
Aconitum rushed to Mr Goat’s aid
“Are you okay!?”  Her voice was a bit frantic. The purple mare checked the goat over head to toe, praying internally that he wasn’t seriously injured.
“Relax, it’s not the first time he’s come that close to lightning.”  Ketamine casually remarked.
“Actually now that I think about it, I believe the last time it struck him directly.”  “Ha, he’s pretty bad ass to survive all that!” Ketamine smiled with pride.
Mr Goat shook like a wet dog, fixing his fur and ridding it of the excess static the lightning bolt had graced him with.
“I’m okay, thanks for your concern Aconitum.”  He said quietly.  “He does this kind of thing to me all the time.”
Aconitum was startled by what she’d just learned.  How could anyone purposely be so careless with their friends?
“I guess he was like this for the Equinox too, wasn’t he?”  the rhetorical question slipped from her lips.  And her and Goat shared a look of understanding between each other before focusing back on the task at hand.

The fire was going strong and the blankets couldn’t get any more comfortable than they already were.  If there ever was a time to get this dream journey on the road, this was it!
“Ketamine, get your butt over here so we can get started!” Aconitum shouted to her less than considerate companion.
Ketamine had returned to checking the area for monsters or other dangers as soon as he’d finished lighting the fire.

After the pink deity settled into the blankets with the others, everyone closed their eyes to drift off into sleep.

It wasn’t long after they each drifted into a state of sleep before they all found themselves within the same dream.  Around them there was darkness.  It appeared as if they were in a weird pit of emptiness and the only thing that existed in this world was them.
A light appeared from above and within it a small piece of parchment floated down towards the adventurers.  The parchment seemed unphased by gravity or airflow as it gently swayed and twirled its way down, almost like it was performing a dance for them and building anticipation.

“Is that thing ever going to make it down here?”  Ketamine asked in an annoyed tone.
“Just be patient, and maybe try to enjoy the show it’s obviously putting on for us.” Aconitum retorted.
When the parchment was close enough to reach the lesser deity snatched it out of the air to check it out.
Immediately their surroundings were filled with scenery and light.  A quick glance around them confirmed they were in some kind of forest.
Ketamine looked at the parchment, it had a message on it.
“Welcome travelers, here are the directions for your dream journey.”  Ketamine looked up, scrunching his nose a little.
“Is this really how they are choosing to deliver this journey to us?”
Beside Ketamine Mr Goat let out a small chuckle.  It was okay, when Ketamine was like this he didn’t pay much attention to his surroundings.
“Just keep reading.” Aconitum said.
“Allright, allright.”  Ketamine directed his attention back at the parchment after rolling his eyes.
“Choose a path ahead of you and follow it to the end” Ketamine scrunched his nose again passing the parchment off to Mr Goat before arrogantly heading towards the paths.
There wasn’t enough time for the goat or mare to stop this stubborn fool, he already found himself on one of the paths.
Mr Goat shook his head, a familiar gesture, before returning his attention to the parchment.
“Uhm, Ketamine?!” the goat shouted, but it was already too late.  The deity had made his decision.
“Well, the good news is the other paths are going to be safe and pleasant.”  The goat chuckled before continuing.
“Ketamine picked the cursed path.”  “If he’d read the rest here it would have clearly spelled it out for him.”
“Is he going to be alright?” Aconitum asked.
The goat beside her shrugged indifferently “I guess we’ll find out.”

Smiling at each other, Mr Goat and Aconitum casually walked down the other path knowing it would be a breeze.
Their path ended up being a pleasant trip down memory lane laced chock full with beautiful sights, sounds, and even smells.  Many joyous laughs were shared between the two as they strolled down their chosen path.

On the other side of things Ketamine was finding himself in a spooky forest.  Creepy sounds could be heard all around him.  Nothing about this was pleasant and on top of that he was annoyed that his companions weren’t there with him to share in his misery.
In situations like this, usually he’d just have Mr Goat scout ahead, or whatnot.  But now?  Now it was just him and he’d have to get through this path all on his own.
Ketamine felt a bit defeated but decided it was in his best interest to at least push forward.  Unpleasant as this path may be, he had to keep moving forward.
Moving forward, one hoof at a time Ketamine reminded himself how much he wants new land and it would all be worth it.
Monsters would regularly jump out at him, startling him.  At one point he even farted a ball of fire.  He counted his blessings that nobody was around to see that!

Up ahead he could see light spilling into the forest at the end of the path.
“This must be the end!”  he said to himself enthusiastically.
Pushing his body to continue moving forward, in just a short distance he found himself out of the spooky forest and in front of his companions who had clearly taken another route.
“Ketamine, you made it!”  Aconitum said excitedly while moving in to give him a hug.
“You took the cursed route, should have read the whole parchment and come with us.”  “Our path was really pleasant and we had a lot of fun.”  Mr Goat was rubbing it into Ketamine’s face a little bit.
Ketamine became annoyed, as expected, but bit his tongue.
“Okay, we all made it through, is this it then?”  Mr Goat asked.
“I don’t know, I thought we were supposed to wake up once the journey was over.” Aconitum said, expressing some concern.
Just then the parchment fell from the goats possession.
The three of them looked down at it in tandem.  “A new message is writing itself on the parchment now.”  Mr Goat was surprised, but figured it must mean there is more to the journey.

Once the parchment’s message was finished being written he leaned down to pick it up.
“Not so fast little ones, your journey has just begun!”  All three gulped.
“Those who took the easy way here must now take the difficult route.”  “And the dumdum who took the cursed route to begin with, must also take it in order to return, thus completing the journey.”
“All other paths will be closed off to you.”  “Good luck!”
The three adventurers shared a look with each other before Ketamine blurted out
“Damn it!” and then suppressed any further urge to throw a tantrum like a little kid.

The three of them faced the cursed path together and stepped forward.  One hoof at a time.
The journey was unpleasant and filled with screams and tears.  But they all stood strong and made it back to the other side, where they were finally released from this nightmare.
