December Joust Pas d'Armes

It was Eira's first joust, and although she had heard about them from Khaalida the young mare was nervous. She was never one for violence, and while Khaali had assured her that it wasn't meant to hurt anyone, Eira couldn't shake the nerves. She had never met her joust partner, Loki before. And they appeared to be late.
Hoping to assuage her nerves, Eira walked into the water she waited beside, shifting to her regional form, hind legs replaced by fins. Her owl soared leisurely above, lazy circles in the air, as Eira enjoyed the feeling of the water flowing around her, dipping and diving beneath its depths. 
A small noise caught Eira's attention, but before she could react the world went absolutely wonky. The water seemed to rise and Eira found herself floating in the air, water around her, as if the world was upside down. Her owl hooted in alarm, eyes wide, and Eira turned to see the appearance of another strange Quirlicorn seeming to float beneath her, a snake wrapped around their neck. 
"What's going on?" Eira gasped. 
The other Quirlicorn laughed, and the insanity faded, leaving Eira where she had been before, floating gently in the water and her owl heading for the nearest branch. 
"Illusion magic!" the other Quirl said with a laugh, seeming to get a kick out of the craziness that Eira had just seen.
Eira shook her head. This certainly wasn't what she had expected.
